What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the leading restorative solution to missing teeth, providing all the benefits of natural teeth without the drawbacks of alternative tooth replacement options. This permanent, natural-looking treatment replaces missing teeth from root to crown. Dental implants consist of three parts:
- Implant—A screw that acts as the root for the new tooth. This part permanently attaches to your jaw.
- Abutment—This is the permanent connector that supports and holds a tooth or multiple teeth.
- Crown—Also known as a prosthetic tooth, this is the visible part of your restoration. It’s typically made from porcelain to ensure a natural appearance and durability.
Implants fuse directly into the jawbone to prevent disintegration, a consequence of tooth loss that affects the appearance of your face and your ability to properly chew. They provide superior support and stability so you can eat all of your favorite foods and smile with ease. Best of all, your dental implants are designed to look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth, giving you a restoration for a lifetime.
The Benefits of Dental Implants
When choosing dental implants as your tooth replacement solution, patients receive several unique benefits. Some of which include:
- Secured to your jaw for maximum stability
- Natural look, feel, and function
- Customized specifically to your mouth
- Easy care and maintenance
- Prevents jawbone deterioration
- Can last a lifetime with proper care
- No dietary restrictions
Our Dental Implant Process
Restoring your smile with dental implants requires several visits to our office in Silsbee, TX. The entire process can be completed in just three simple steps:
Your Initial Consultation
If you’re interested in receiving dental implants, the first step is to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Middleton. This preliminary visit will include an examination of your teeth, gums, and jawbone to determine if implants are the best treatment option for you.
Many patients can have their implants placed right away, but some may require a supplemental procedure before treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Middleton will examine your oral health to ensure you’re a proper candidate. This visit is also a great time to ask questions or voice any concerns you may have.
Dental Implant Placement
If dental implants are right for you, we can begin the process right away. Dr. Middleton will place the determined amount of implants directly into the jawbone. We’ll then protect the surgical area with a cap to start the healing process. This can last anywhere between three and six months. During this time, your implant will heal and merge with your jawbone through a natural process called osseointegration.
Your Customized Restoration
Once you’re fully recovered, you’ll return to our Silsbee office to complete the last step in the implant process. At this appointment, Dr. Middleton will attach your customized restoration. Depending on your individual needs, this may be a porcelain crown, fixed bridge, or full-arch dentures. After attachment, you’ll leave our office with a new, naturally beautiful smile.
Caring for Your Dental Implants
With proper care, your customized dental implants can last a lifetime. Luckily, taking care of your implants is almost no different than caring for your natural teeth. Follow these tips to ensure your dental implants stay in great condition:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Floss at least once a day, being mindful not to snap the floss onto your gums.
- Rinse with an antibacterial, alcohol-free mouthwash between meals.
- Visit our Silsbee dental office once every six months for regular checkups and professional cleanings.
